I Miss Your Light

Lead kindly, light. Lead me, dear light.

I am far from home and Nanay is gone.

Nanay, you always had a word

to give me light back then.

As a boy, as a priest, as a bishop,

you always gave me light

that light only mothers can give.

Nanay, I miss your light.

I could not confess to you,

nor can you absolve sins.

But you always gave me light

each time I told you my faults.

Is it true that God does not sleep?

Is it true that God knows all evil men do?

Is it true that God protects the innocent?

Is it true that God hears all prayers?

Nanay, I miss your light.

You knew no theology,

You had no training in philosophy,

But you always gave me light.

Let me feel your prayers again.

Let me feel your hug again.

See through my eyes again.

See my tears and wipe them for me.

Nanay, I miss your light.
